[comp.sys.next] Programming info for the NeXT

vkoussari@dorsai (V. Koussari) (06/14/91)

Hi,
I am a DOS user/programmer who has would like to get some more info about
programming the Next. At this moment I am trying to create an interface
similar to nextstep for the PC. Although I have no access to a NeXT,
I bought a copy of Doug Clapps NeXT Bible. Which describes in general
the inner workings of NeXTStep. But I can only get so far with general
descriptions of the Application kit classes. I have also asked a major
library in NY (mcgraw-hill), but they only carry two books on the next.
I would appreciate any information from you.

thank you in advance for all your help.

Question? Does NeXT support C++ use with the IB and the Application Kit?

having written software for the NeXTfor the last two years i have written NeXT
software both commercially and for government accounts. I can say, with
great confidence, that you have a long road to travel. forget about the bible
and buy the NeXT tech docs. study Mach, Objective-C, and NeXTstep in GREAT
detail--they are intimately linked. then, become a developer and buy a
NeXT. to complete you lesson write an ambitious project (look for something
the world could use and donate it to a university's ftp site). now you're
ready to do a NeXT--->PC thing but may no loner want to. in fact you'll
probably dump the PC.

NeXT supports c++ but NeXTstep is Objective-C dependent.
