OK, this is probably a FAQ, but I can't find it either in NeXTAnswers or in the FAQ file. Can someone post once again instructions for connecting a terminal to a NeXTStation, including EXACTLY what Mac --> Imagewriter cable to buy (I'm serious, there seem to be several different versions for the Mac 512, Mac +, etc). Also, if you know of a good place to get one would you share that with me also? Thanks Timothy Buck timbuck@vtvm1.cc.vt.edu (preferred), jbuck@vtssi.vt.edu, OR Tim.Buck@bbs.oit.unc.edu

Are >we talking about two different cables here, Eric? '030 NeXTs and '040 NeXT use different cables because the serial ports are different. Mac cables will work with '030 cubes but not the newer '040 machines. Anyway, our 12' custom-built cables cost us less than $19. NeXTconnection is a premium "I want it in the mail TODAY" service. Think of them as the moral equivalent of Inmac or Glasgal. You don't go to them first if you're trying to save money (unless time is money, so to speak). -=EPS=-

All you need is the proper cable and the use of the right devices on the NeXT. Check the NeXT man pages!!!!! =============================================================================== Felix A. Here's my $.02 worth: 1. Mac cables work but are not wired correctly and can cause strange results. 2. Mac cables have the CTS modem signal connected to the DCD NeXT pin. This can cause all kinds of neat behavior, especially if your modem thinks it's doing hardware flow control. 3. The correct cables are available from NeXTConnection for a mere $15 (and they're black!) Hope this helps! -brian

In fact, put and take under tip seem more reliable now than when I had the '30. It happens that these cables have certain pins jumpered -- I can't remember which. Perhaps the jumpered pins have caused me to luck out.
