[net.auto] Radar Detector Info Wanted

dwl (05/05/83)

You claim that it's too easy to drive too fast. Therefore,
you're looking for a radar detector. I would suggest that for about
the same price as a good radar detector, you can get cruise control!
It will tend to keep you from unconsciously speeding... another way
to avoid tickets, and legal in all states.

Or was it your intention to use the miracle of electronics
for the purpose of intentionally breaking the law by helping you
avoid detection?

I am considering buying a radar detector and would like to find one that
is effective, inconspicous, and permenently installed. I have noticed
that most of the literature I have seen talks about dashboard/ visor
type mounting. I have also heard that the escort is supposed to be a
very good one, but I would like something that didn't have to be mounted
above the dash. I would also appreciate the indulgence of someone to
supply information about how police radar is used; What's the
significance of super-hetrodyne, x and k band, etc. ?

I am thinking about buying a radar detector, possibly an Escort.
I'd appreciate any comments or recommendations on this subject. I know
Consumer Reports has covered this but I'd like to get some opinions
from the radar detector owners on the net. Please reply by mail.

Do you remember which issue of consumer reports covered radar detectors?
I'm considering buying one.

I don't read this newsgroup that often, so if this topic has been
discussed before, I'm sorry. Also if it was and anyone has the old
articles please forward to me. thanks.

I used a Passport for about 3 months and I loved it. It was my friend's
and I had to give it back. Now I want to buy one and I want to know if
they are any that are as good as the passport but not as expensive. I
really don't want to shell out $295 if i don't have to. Has anyone ever
heard of the GUL and is it any good? It's the same size as the Passport
and claims to be better (of course), but it's only $149. Any info
anybody has I would aprreciate. please respond my e-mail.

thanks
