Hello netters, I have recently acquired a Micropolis 760M drive and I wonder if I should reformat the drive to optimize it or leave it alone. I get 636M at boot time for the capacity and here is additional info: apnext1# scsimodes /dev/rsd1a SCSI information for /dev/rsd1a Drive type: MICROP 1588-15MB1039605 512 bytes per sector 54 sectors per track 15 tracks per cylinder 1632 cylinder per volume (including spare cylinders) 8 spare sectors per cylinder 45 alternate tracks per volume 1304051 usable sectors on volume apnext1# apnext1# disk /dev/rsd1a disk name: MICROP 1588-15MB1039605 disk type: fixed_rw_scsi Disk utility disk> read starting block? 0 # sectors per transfer? 16 number of transfers? 1000 sector increment? 16 16384000 bytes in 14548 ms = 1126822 bytes/s disk> quit apnext1# I'd love to up the capacity to 660M but would that mean a loss in speed? Any help and pointers to possible tools to do the job are appreciated. Please email me and I'll sumarize if need be. Thanks in advance. -Ghislain /**** Ghislain ( aka LL ) *********** ghislain@slacvm.slac.stanford.edu ******/ Stanford University and the DOE don't pay me to express their views and opinions here.
