Perhaps this has been asked before. Does the SCSI controller used by NeXT support synchronous SCSI operation? I understand from the docs that the controller does support disconnect/reconnect. Correct me if I'm wrong. The context of my query is this: I'm thinking of adding a 3rd party optical drive to my cube. It will be daisy-chained to an exabtye tape that is connected to the SCSI port. I'm wondering if an optical drive in this position could sustain CD rates of sound playback over relatively long periods of time. Any pointers to info on that NeXT SCSI chip would be appreciated. If the NeXT supports sync SCSI, I wonder if those 3rd party optical drives do too? I'm in the process of calling vendors, so I'll find out and let you know. Thanks all. Susan sfl@grasshopper.ucsd.edu
