[comp.sys.next] Screensaver 2.0

mcarthur@sonia.math.ucla.edu (06/24/91)

For all interested parties, the updated version of Screensaver
will be placed on the archives within a week. This utility allows the
user to select a "screensaver" file (either existing or user written)
which executes after a given amount of inactivity (from the user, that is).
Upgrades are free to those who sent in registration for Screensaver0.5a.
A demo and registration instructions are provided.
Due to many aggravating complications, this version of Screensaver
does not allow an arbitrary screensaver for the logout window. Currently
it will only dim it to 0 brightness. (For those of you who are wondering,
individual users can select a screensaver which makes the screen totally
black, instead of just dimming to 0.)

In summary Screensaver2.1 has the following features:

        1) Does "something" after a period of user inactivity (mouse moves,
mouse clicks, keyboard input). Where "something" refers to a
user-specified function, it is generally one of the sceen movies
	   (it defaults to this).

        2) Individual users can have their own personal screensavers.

        3) The system can have a default screensaver.

        4) Has a VERY easy user interface.

        5) Has a demo mode to test the various screensavers.

        6) Dims to zero for the login window and for users not using
           Screensaver.

        7) Has an "ACTIVE" icon when screensaver is active.

	8) Some nice example screensavers.

You can get a copy of Screensaver2.0 at the following archive sites:

	nova.cc.purdue.edu
	cs.orst.edu

(currently in /pub/next/submissions look for Screensaver2.1.tar.Z).

ENJOY! :-)
