Department of Defense Standard Networking for 386 UNIX!
First in-kernel 386 TCP/IP for sale!
Twice as fast and 1/2 the price of competition!
Streamlined Networks is proud to announce a new product for
the UNIX LAN market: the Streamlined TCP Workstation Package.
Streamlined TCP supports the core protocols of the Department
of Defense's TCP/IP network protocol suite and is based on
the well-known BSD TCP/IP package. Streamlined TCP runs
under the UNIX V.3 STREAMS architecture and supports RFS,
the X Window System, and all other network applications that
use either the TLI or socket() programmers libraries.
Streamlined TCP is shipped bundled with an Ethernet adapter
for the PC/AT. It runs under UNIX V.3/386, XENIX/386 (soon),
and Microport System V/386.
Streamlined TCP is priced at $795 US. This includes Ethernet
adapter, software, and manual. As an introductory special,
through November 31 we offer the Starter's Kit:
o two adapters
o one manual
o two software licenses,
o Thin Ethernet connectors, terminators
and 20' cable
for only: Twelve Hundred Ninety-Nine Dollars, that's $1299 (U.S.).
Streamlined TCP is a "pure port" of the BSD network software
into the STREAMS system. Streamlined TCP is one large STREAMS
module with the protocol family software "encased" within.
The 4.3 code has almost no changes in it, and thus no bugs were
introduced in the process. Features supported:
o The new Jacobsen/Karels congestion control enhancements
are included.
o TLI (Transport Layer Interface) is AT&T's alternative to
sockets(). Streamlined TCP supports TLI for the TCP protocol.
RFS and other TLI applications have been tested. The release
comes with a script that sets up an RFS network.
o The remote login and telnet daemons use the the new
STREAMS "pushable line discipline" to achieve much more
efficient and stable virtual terminal performance.
o The TTR (TeleType Remora) module transforms a standard
terminal into a STREAMS device. The LDS (LoopDown Scanner)
module connects two STREAMS queues and reflects down each
queue all data that travels up from the other. The rlogin
and telnet clients use these two modules to achieve excellent
virtual terminal performance.
Streamlined Networks, a self-funded company based in Fremont, CA,
was formed in 1986 to build specialized system software for UNIX
on the 80386 based on DOS-market peripherals. Streamlined TCP is
the first in a line of networking and other solutions for 386 UNIX
VARs and power users.
