[alt.next] Mac University Prices.

hkbirke@mit-amt (Hal Birkeland) (10/15/88)

From the MIT Micro Center's 12 October Price List (after recent cost
increases):

MacIntosh II w/800K drive and 1 Meg	$3140
80 Meg Drive w/AUX $2000
(NOTE: the cost of AUX is $2k and is shipped on an 80Meg drive,
they don't have the floppy distribution yet)
Monochrome Display and Card $ 625
7 Meg of RAM (for comparison) $3075
(NOTE: the 2 Meg SIMMs priced here aren't currently available)

TOTAL COST: $8840

this does not include a kinetics box for ethernet communications or
any of the applications software included with NeXT. On the other hand,
you can walk in and get one of these (minus the RAM) in a couple of
days, not May. And, of course, when the X Consortium releases X11R3
(Octoberish) you can have monochrome X Windows on the MacII w/AUX.

All in all, the NeXT is the better value dollar-wise, but may not be
as functional as a MacII or a MicroVaxII.

Argghh... process killed: no swap space. I only have 13 Meg of swap and
12 Meg of core. There aint nothing like graphics applications.
