A new car magazine made an appearance this week at our University bookstore, and was sold out within a day: David E. Davis, Jr. Presents the Premiere Issue A U T O M O B I L E MAGAZINE Here's what we've all been waiting for since DED, Jean Lindamood and Kevin Smith left Car and Driver. The magazine is much in the style of CAR, which is one of the finest magazines in the world. The entire magazine is printed on glossy, colour paper and is very professionally done. Price is $3.00 Canada, $2.50 USA. "Charter subscription" costs $14.95 in USA, $18.95 in Canada and $24.95 overseas. Articles include "Toyota MR2 meets Ferrari 308", "Buick Regal Grand National", "Porsche 911 Turbo", "Toyota Supra", "Five Countries in One Day", "Honda Begets Acura", "4Seasons Test: Mercedes 300E", "Racers on the Wall", "1949 Ferrari 166M" and "Suzuki Samurai JX". Lots of _good_ photos, not many tech specs or road test results, but rather descriptions of what the cars _feel_ like. Some excerpts from DED's editorial: "We seek adventure and the good life, and we seek them in the cars that are fun to drive. We'll drive exciting cars to unforgettable places. ... We'll wring out and review some of the finest, fastest and most interesting cars in the world each month ... We won't waste your time with tiresome tales of boring cars." "I flew back and forth to London to meet with Ian Fraser, managing director of Great Britain's CAR magazine - in my estimation the best automotive publication in the world today - to see if we could somehow form an alliance. " Pick up a copy and see if you enjoy it as much as I did; I already know of about a dozen people who have subscribed after the first issue! Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in Automobile Magazine, but I'd certainly like to see it succeed! \tom haapanen / watrose!tohaapanen university of waterloo ..!watmath <-- watmum!tohaapanen \ watlion!tohaapanen I am one in ten, a number on a list I am one in ten, even though I don't exist No-body knows me, though I'm always there A statistical reminder of a world that doesn't care (c) UB40, 1981
