IJCAI-91 Workshop AI Approaches to Production Planning: Scheduling and Sequencing Tools Call for Participation Production planning is becoming the central focus for improvement in performance by Western manufacturing companies. Increased emphasis on delivery performance, customer satisfaction, total quality control and inventory reduction are themes underlying Japanese and Korean successes in manufacturing technology, that other industries must now match to maintain competitive strategies. Production planning is a highly complex activity that can benefit from AI approaches in developing tools to support, optimise or automate planning functions. Flexible Manufacturing and Computer Integrated Manufacturing are emerging approaches to production planning that could benefit from exposure to AI methods and tools. Two particular areas of production planning are targeted for this workshop. Master Scheduling is concerned with materials and resource allocation, particularly in job-shop situations where multiple production routes must be allocated. Sequencing is concerned with ordering production through single/multiple processes, particularly when optimising constraints must be fulfilled by the generated sequence. The workshop will address key enabling technologies that have or might be applied to CIM approaches to this area. Format We intend to limit attendance to roughly 30 participant. The format would be a presentation session of 2 hours duration for the presentation of around 8 - 10 short (10-15 minutes) papers describing either industry based tools in use or under development, or academic research programs with application to the area. We then propose a 1 hour open forum on industry directions, to be chaired by the organizing committee. Proceedings will be published, and a review of the workshop should be published in a relevant journal. This call for participation solicits persons interested in the area of production planning to indicate interest either to attend the workshop, or to present a paper at the workshop. Note that abstracts may be submitted by May 15th, however camera-ready copy needs to be submitted by Jun 30th to allow for the preparation of proceedings prior to the conference. Please submit both hard copy and electronic versions of the papers. Date Saturday, August 24th. 1pm - 4pm Calendar May 15 Deadline for indicating interest to attend workshop May 15 Deadline for submission of papers/Extended abstracts Jun 1 Notification date for participants' acceptance to w'shop Jun 30 Final Deadline for revised camera-ready papers Jul 15 Deadline for registration fee ($65) sent to IJCAI.
