[net.auto] INTERCOOLERS!

earle@oblio.DEC (George Earle 226-6498 ____ Its full of Stars...) (03/14/86)

I know this message got out because I have gotten a couple of replies but my
USENET mailings had stopped and I just got them started again.

I am really trying to find out the names and addresses of companies
that make a factory intercooler for the Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest.
If you have any information I would gladly appreciate it (including prices).
Thanks.

Anyone know of one for the Laser Turbo? The kit probably needs to
include a new computer PROM for the higher boost pressures. I'd like
a factory kit, but I haven't seen one yet. (I asked the parts
department at the dealer, the answer was "What's an intercooler?")

Yes, Mopar has an intercooler for the 2.2 Turbo. But don't expect your
average dealer to know about it. Direct Connection (the Chrysler
factory performance parts outlet) now has both an intercooler kit, and
a Hi-Po ingnition computer (allowing 10psi boost) to go with it. They
just did a project P-car (I think it's the new P-car) and claimed
something like 185 or so ponies, not bad for a four-banger. As far as
getting the kit(s), your best bet is to find a good speed shop in your
area. They will have all the latest catalogues, as well as the
expertise to install/tune such a rig. You may get lucky and find a
Chrylser dealer who handles DC parts (a bunch do, I have a list if
you're interested), but getting the work done is a bit riskier. If you
are at all serious about adding some 'beef' to your ChryCo product, I
fully recomend sending in one of those ad's to join the 'Direct
Connection Race Team' you see in car magazines. While the gimmicks
they send you are cute, the new Direct Connection Catalogue and the
monthly newsletters about new products, etc. are well worth the
$12/year. They have a pretty good line of parts for the 2.2-equiped
cars so you can prepare it for anything from AutoCross, to Road
racing, to Pro-Rallye.
