> > Does anyone know of a BITNET gateway on USENET. If so, where is it > and how do I use it? > This type of request has appeared at least five times in the last three months. Most of the responses give incomplete answers, such as "there's a gateway at Wisconsin . Don't forget caps in the destination address." That's not too helpful; it provides no instructions on the gateway's *use*. Would some guru-type please post detailed information on: * what gateways exists * how they are used (give *explicit* instructions on address syntax) * any useful comments . Perhaps this question should be placed in the commonly-asked questions section of the net.announce.newuser postings. -- Scott Crenshaw {akgua,decvax}!mcnc!rti-sel!scirtp SCI Systems , Inc. there is a two way gateway to/from BITNET at talcott. to send to BITNET: from uucp: {harvard,ihnp4,...}!talcott!BITNETSITE!bitnetuser note caps. ( IBM you know ) from arpa: user%bitnetsite.bitnet@talcott.arpa user%bitnetsite.bitnet@talcott.harvard.edu getting back is harder since bitnet addresses are limited to 8 characters 1/ edit a file that will be your letter 2/ put a line with this format as the first line of the file: To: user@site.domain "uucp" is an example domain 3/ transfer to the psudo account "MAILER" at HARVUNXT with CLASS=M, FTYPE=MAIL NOTES: DO NOT USE A MAILER to send the letter, mailers add their own to line and that will cause the letter to be trashed do not use "NOTE" it produces a single line with many non translatable control characters questions: scott bradner sob@harvard.{uucp,arpa,csnet,harvard.edu} sob@harvunxt.bitnet
