[gnu.emacs.vms] Weird error in GNU18.52 for VMS

ANK%CUNYVMS1.BITNET@mitvma.mit.edu (ANIL KHULLAR) (01/10/89)

We received a BACKUP saveset of GNU18.52 from Free Software Foundation.
and there was one error that I cannot figure out.

        1. When running emacs for the first time, it says terminal
                TERMCAP not defined....somehow emacs wants a VT100
to be a TERMCAP ? TERMCAP.DAT does exist and so do entries
for all the terminals that we have. I recompiled the sources
again and the same problem occured.

has anyone had a similar problem ? Currently we are running VMS4.7 but next
week we'll move to VMS5-02. Please reply directly to me at
"ankgc@cunyvm.cuny.edu" .

If you have a logical name TERM defined on your system you will
run into that error. Look in the source for references to the string "TERM"
the work-around is to define a logical name EMACS_TERM.
