I have gnu emacs 18.55 running on vms 5.1 but the meta key doesn't work. Is this a termcap problem? Does anyone have a termcap entry that enables the meta key (ie the compose character key by the space bar). Also, to ask this question again, does anyone have emacs running under dec windows. I tried to compile it for awhile but it keeps barfing since vms seems to lack the fcntl facility.

Probably they work just fine in 18.55. It also fixes the compose key to be the Meta key. They are available for anonymous ftp in tar format. There is also a VMS tar available if you need it. I'm quite curious if these changes will make it into the standard distribution, if anyone can comment on that. Chuck Parsons CHUCK@MITLNS.MIT.EDU CHUCK@MITLNS.BITNET

A change kit for 18.55 (including full LK201 keyboard support) can be retrieved from the Multihouse Mail Server by sending a message to <mail-server@mh.nl>, with contents btoa path <your_valid_return_path> send vms-xemacs end (Leave out the "btoa" line if you prefer uuencoding instead.) If someone wants to put this on some FTP machines, I + my boss will be grateful.
