[gnu.utils.bug] A Warning About Sun's Make

frank@Morgan.COM (Frank Wortner) (02/01/89)

This is not really a bug report, but rather a warning. If I'm wrong to
post it here, apologies in advance. I just thought I'd save a few
people some frustration.

Processing a texinfo file with TeX and texindex produces a file
suffixed ".cps". If you use Sun's make program, beware that it
assumes ".cps" files contain C/PostScript interface routines (for use
with NeWS). Sun make may decide to run "cps" on the file, and clobber
source code. I roasted my copy of "tar.c" when Sun's make decided to
remanufacture it from "tar.cps". Be careful!
