This is on 386/ix 2.0.1. Make was compiled with gcc 1.34 using COFF
encapsulation.
Given the following Makefile, make 3.45 should remove a.o before
terminating:

# make should remove a.o after updating the library, but it doesn't
#
LIB=test.a
OBJS=$(LIB)(a.o)
$(LIB): $(OBJS)
---------- cut here ----------
As you can see from the following, a.o remains after make is done.
