i got lost in windowing when i reported that cc failed with the latest bison. i have both old and new bison available in different windows at the moment. anyway, when i went back to the latest bison, and used cc, the bug had to do with properly feeding alloca.o to the final compile of bison. when alloca.o is put into OBJS properly, it compiles! thus the problem is an interaction between gcc-1.35 and bison.
