[gnu.utils.bug] binutils installation report for 386/ix

pinard@EDDIE.MIT.EDU (Francois Pinard) (02/26/90)

Here are a few problems met while installing binutils on a 386/ix
system. I got binutils.tar.Z from prep.ai.mit.edu somewhere in
December, I think.

* Makefile [89-10-26]: using LIBS=-lPW to include alloca, $(LIBS)
should appear after GNU_GETOPT_LONG, not before, on the lines loading
nm and strip. $(LIBS) should also be added at the end of the lines
loading ar, objdump and ranlib.

* Makefile [89-10-26]: on install goal, there is $file where it should
read $${file}. Also, there should be a semicolon on both the cp and
the mv lines, before the ending backslash.

* ranlib.c [89-09-01]: psignal is undefined at load time.

* objdump.c [89-08-12]: the compiler complains that it cannot do
automatic aggregate initialization. Maybe struct option long_options
should be declared static?

* robotussin-fix [88-12-22], at first glance, seems to be contained
within robotussin [89-94-23]. Should it be deleted?

* robotussin [89-04-23] on /lib/crt1.o says: `Oops! possible bug -
reloc reference to ignored symbol'.

I think I have a few other problems in robotussin area, and would like
to receive some help from a kind soul :-). I read more than once that
several people installed gcc on a 386/ix without a glitch, so I should
be missing something, somewhere...
