Am I just being dense, or is there something wrong with magic missile staffs/wands in rogue 5.2? I can't ever get the darn things to hit. Either I miss, or the missile vanishes, every time, regardless of distance or target type. Charles Poirier (duke!cjp)

Sounds like a bug to me. In a recent game I exhausted two m.m. staves without a single hit. Perhaps there is a safety catch on them!
