Aww, c'mon. What's the point in cheating at a game like this? The parallel universe idea is nice, I would have like to try it a few times myself, but, if you are living a real life, you never get to see "what if". Why do that in a game? But why on earth would you want to inflate your score? I could see inflating your hit points, or maybe your experience level to let you survive more attacks, but just to put yourself on the board? How petty! If you have access to the source, why not just make it recognise your uid, and give you wizard rights without setting "waswiz"? I'd like to see you break the codes *without* a source listing. Now *that* would be a challenge! -Dan Klein, Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh -Klone, killed on level 25 by an umber hulk (close, soooo close...)

Did I see someone make the challange to cheat at rogue WITHOUT the sources? I've done it. All we got was a striped a.out. (version 2.3??? or something, for 11/70) I can now go into the executable and change the encrypted wizard password to whatever I want. However, I don't play rogue very much at all. I had more fun with adb figuring out how to change the password, and considered it more of a challange to ME, rather than luck. So you went down to 25th level and killed a dragon and I can't.(though with my new knowledge I can) I went down to 5th or 6th level subroutine and successfully twiddled the bits, without ever having seen the sources or symbol table. And the knowledge I learned has applications in the real world. -Dave Borman ihnss!ihps3!stolaf!borman
