[net.games.rogue] Scroll that does nothing

Does anybody know about the scroll that just does nothing apparent when
you read it?  Ie. all you get is "As you read the scroll, it vanishes" with
no --more-- prompt.  (It's not a teleport that didn't move you)

Anyway, these scrolls are fairly rare, and I have heard them called
"hold monster" although I have never done an identify on one.  The other
night, while being chased by a friendly neighbourhood purple worm, I decided
to read one of these babies and it had no effect.  How do you use it, and
what does it do if anything?
