The haste-self potion should allow you to dispatch the Purple Worm without
his hitting you except for the turn you use to quaff it as long as you have
space to move. It works like this: 1) Quaff the potion, 2) He hits, 3) You
hit, 4) you move one space away from him, 5) he moves next to you, 6) You
hit, 7) You move one space away from him, 8) He moves next to you, 9-n) Etc.
 
By the way, you become permanently hasted when you quaff two haste-selfs.
 
Question. How do you people get these kinds of monsters "turned on" if you
don't want to fight them? In our version (3.n), P's and D's leave you alone
unless you bug them first.

In 3.x, you get permanently hastened when you quaff 2 haste-selfs.
In 5.2, you just pass out, and when you wake up you're normal.
(I've tried it.)
