I have a question. Let us say I have the standard +1,+1 mace and I have identified a couple of scrolls of Enchant Weapon. I am down around levels 18-20 where the power of the mace is becoming inadequate. I also have identifd a ring of increase damage. Can I wield the ring and enchant it? My reasoning is I don't want to waste the scrolls on the mace only to find a two handed sword on the next level. But on the other hand if I don't increase the quality of my weapon I might not make it to the next level. If I can enchant the ring I can get more power from the mace as well as any weapon I find in the future. Does this sound reasonable or am I way off base? A Frustrated Player ihuxr!rac R. A. Crabb

The "enchant weapon" scroll merely increases either the plus to hit or plus to damage of whatever weapon you happen to be wielding at the time. Can anybody tell me what happens if you read an "enchant weapon" scroll while you're not wielding a weapon, or likewise an "enchant armor" scroll while you're not wearing armor?

If you read an enchant weapon scroll without wielding a weapon or an enchant armor scroll without wearing armor, you receive the messages: You feel a strange sense of loss. The scroll then disappears.

A reading of a scroll of enchant armor/weapon when not holding said item yields: "You feel a strange sense of loss..." Rick Lindsley uwvax!rodolf
