tower@AI.MIT.EDU (Leonard H. Tower Jr.) (06/05/89)
1) If any of you have a 9 track reel tape drive that reads and writes in Unix tar format at 1600bpi, as well as an attached system that can hold 200 to 300 meg of source, we need one for the terminal room at USENIX to make GNU and other free software available to conference attendees. The system would ideally be setup on Sunday, 11 June and packed up on Friday, 16 June. There is a chance the system could be damaged or stolen, and I'm not aware of any insurance that would cover it (though I could ask). Note, that the terminal room is either locked up or supervised at all times. 2) FSF will have a much greater 'presence' than at past USENIXes: Richard Stallman, from about 7pm Monday until late Wednesday. rms and tower will be going out to dinner Monday night with anyone else interested. We will meet at 8:15pm near the hotel registration desk in the Hyatt Regency. rms will be most free Monday night, for those who wish to talk with him. Randy Smith, from late Monday until Thursday or Friday. Roland McGarth, from Wednesday until Thursday or Friday. Len Tower, from Sunday afternoon until late Friday. rms will be giving a USENIX tutorial on the "Internals of GCC" on Tuesday. The tutorial is not yet sold out, and there is a good chance that you can register at the door. rms and tower will be hosting a BOF (Bird Of a Feather session) Tuesday Night from 8pm to 10pm. USENIX BOFs do not require Conference Registration to attend (i.e. they is no $ fee to get in, no conference badge needed at the door). Please past this on to anyone who might be interested. Local electronic forums in the Baltimore/Washington DC area could be particularly interested in the BOF announcement! thanx -len
