[can.uucp] more bogus .ca domains?

lyndon@cs.AthabascaU.CA (Lyndon Nerenberg) (12/16/89)

The saga continues ...

The latest unreplyable address at Athabasca U is:

	XXX@daffy.FhHosp.AB.CA

The latest u.can.ab.1 map disclaims all knowledge of this domain.
My guess is it's the Foothills Hospital.

Maybe we should send the Calgary network folks a large batch of putty
for Christmas so they can plug all these leaks :-)

The UnCaNet saga, it would seen. One of the members registered on its own (it
would appear that whatever plan there was to have them register all in block
with John Demco fell into a crack somewhere). The only valid .ab.ca domains
are:

APSS.Ab.Ca	Alberta Public Safety Services
ARC.Ab.Ca Alberta Research Council
CanOxy.Ab.Ca	Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd.
MtRoyal.Ab.Ca	Mount Royal College

All others are bogus, and use of the NetNorth, UUCP or Internet routing data
(and I'd bet, the CDNNet data too) will result in those bogon addresses being
tossed out, as they should be.

I have always wondered how the people associated with that group with
unregistered mail addresses ever manage to receive anything but local mail
at all. I noticed, however, that the really infamous one, *.adhocnet.ca,
is still alive and well and living in the NetNorth routing data. The fact
that this keeps the mail (from mailing lists, at least) moving from some
subset of the world at large may give those sites a false sense that all
is well.

Things might work better, on balance, if *.adhocnet.ca disappeared from
the face of the earth, since this might prompt those who haven't yet
figured out what is required to get mail delivered reliably to do so.

The fellow causing all these problems name is Rom Keiffer. His
id is KIEFFER@UNCAEDU.BITNET
He seems to be connecting up sites in Calgary before they get
registered. In fact some never get registered. I believe it's
a leftover from his AdHocnet setup. In anycase I suggest
you send him a message. If you want to send to these sites
just address them to id%wierdsite@UNCANET.BITNET
for example the above case would be
xxx%daffy.FhHosp.AB.CA@UNCAEDU.BITNET
that should work. Of course if you can't get to bitnet directly
well, then oh well...
