[gnu.emacs.gnus] Garbage articles.

russo@chaos.utexas.edu (Tom Russo) (08/03/89)

Hi folks, it's me. Sincerest apologies for all of those garbaged
articles that came before this one. I can't seem to get them
cancelled, since their headers are junque. I have gone back to using
rn (ARRRRRGGH) for the purpose of posting this one.

Ok, here is the question(somewhat wordy):
Whenever I post news with GNUS (but not with rn) my article is munched
in a very annoying way. The first manifestation was that an article
simply posted with the 'a' command and nothing else would have the
first few lines of text all run together.

I posted to this group and was told to M-x auto-fill-mode. I did this,
and the running-together behavior stopped, but now the first line or
so gets stuck somewhere in the header (Distribution on a new post,
References on a follow-up post), the next couple of lines get eaten,
then the rest of the message is fine.

SO: the questions (less wordy):
  a) Can anyone knowledgable of the innards of gnus-post-foo tell me
what might be going on in there to garble my message? Can you suggest
a fix?
  b) My mini-inews doesn't like the in-reply-to line at the top of the
header for some odd reason. Is there any way to customize gnus to put
that line at the end of the header or some other appropriate place, so
inews will take the message? So far I've had to move that line myself,
but I'd like to set it up so that other users will not have to pull
their hair out every time they want to post with GNUS.

Any help would be appreciated, and I think Email is probably the way
to reply to this...
