I'm running GNU Emacs 18.54 and GNUS 3.11 on a Motorola 68030 System V Unix box. I've tried the local guys, but nobody seems to have an answer, so in desperation I will bother the net. I have been using GNUS for about three months and never had a bit of problem posting with it until suddenly one day ... Here are the symptoms. I do gnus-post-news. It says "Are you sure ...?". I say yes. It says "Newsgroup:". I say diablo.test (a local in-house group). It says "Subject:". I say TEST. It says "Distribution: diablo". I hit return. It puts me in the *post-news* buffer with the header: > Newsgroups: diablo.test > Subject: TEST > Distribution: diablo > --text follows this line-- (no > 's, of course). I type in "Ignore this." and C-c C-s (news-inews). It goes "Posting to USENET ..." Then "Beep" and "Article rejected: inews: Cannot open /news/lib/active (r+): Permission denied\ The file in question looks like (ls -pails): 12123 33 -rw-r--r-- 1 8 8 15987 Aug 7 11:03 /news/lib/active As far as I can tell, inews is /news/lib/inews, which looks like: 638 189 -rwsr-sr-x 1 8 8 94728 Feb 22 10:16 /news/lib/inews which runs with setuid for user 8, so that /news/lib/active should be accessible read/write. /news is a remotely mounted file system with read/write permissions. I can post using Pnews, which is how I plan to get this out the door. The mystery is that this _used_ to work, and suddenly it doesn't. The only other guy in house who uses GNUS to post isn't having any troule. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. ================================================================= Lynn D.
