Gnews has been the default news reader for our user community for 2 years now. I have recently been testing gnus and like the fact that it is a lot faster than Gnews. Mainly for that reason (and a few others) I would like the rest of our users the opportunity to try gnus. Gnews will write out a .newsrc from their .gnewsrc file. This file contains only those newsgroups that one is subscribed to. Upon entering gnus for the first time all those newsgroups that are not in the .newsrc file will be subsribed to. 8-() Does anyone know how to stop gnus from automatically subscribing newsgroups not in the .newsrc? Come to think of it, that's not what I really want. What I want is to fill up the .newsrc file with all those unsubscribed newsgroups so gnus won't try to subscribe to them. Any suggestions are welcome, although ones that are very easy or easily automated (shell scripts) would be best. Our user community is not the most advanced USENET news reading group.
