[gnu.emacs.gnus] Positioning cursor in subject buffer after k vs. C-k

montnaro@sprite.crd.ge.com (Skip Montanaro) (10/05/89)

When I hit 'k' in the subject buffer gnus auto selects the next unread
article, starting from the beginning of the subject list. However, C-k
positions the cursor at the next unread article, starting from the article I
just killed. Suppose my subject buffer looks like:

D 28: [166:barnett@crdgw] Re: Virus Alert! (Mac's and PC's)
  29: [ 26:gallacch@slee] GE Interleaf Agreement
  30: [ 4:gallacch@slee] Interleaf Demo
31: [ 17:barnett@crdgw] USENET available for Ultrix machines
D 32: [ 21:barnett@crdgw] Re: Virus Alert! (Mac's and PC's)
  33: [104:barnett@crdgw] New On-line Tutorials available
  34: [ 58:barnett@crdgw] GRTOOL - a new plotting tool available for Suns/Sunview
35: [ 22:barnett@crdgw] New version of vttool installed (vt100 emulator)

and the current article is #32. If I hit k, it will kill what's left of the
virus subject, then auto-select article #29, because I have auto-select set.
If, on the other hand, I hit C-k, the cursor will be positioned at article
#33. I'd like to be able to march through an entire newsgroup using C-k
without having to occasionally reposition the cursor to the top of the
buffer, or viewing an article, just to position the cursor at the first
unread article in the group.

This change would make it easier for me to scan large volume newsgroups,
occasionally reading an interesting subject thread, then continuing with
C-k, zap! zap! zap! Much faster from home via low- to medium-speed modem.

Thanks,
