I recently played a very interesting game of rogue. I was winning (down to level 25, permanently hasted, umber-hulks genocided, many hit-points and reasonable armor and weapon) when something glitched (terminal, modem, or I hit too many keys in a row). The screen got messed up (broken walls, disjoint passages, etc) and a control-L didn't fix things up. I saved the game, hung up, turned off terminal and modem, turned everything on, logged on and restarted the game. The screen was now okay, but every time I tried to go down one particular passageway and into a doorway, it kicked me out to the shell again (leaving terminal modes very strange but saving the game correctly). I got back in and tried to go through the doorway several times, getting kicked out every time. I had seen about 6 rooms at this point, but no stairs. I searched everywhere, but no pits, no teleports, no secret doors, no other ways into the remaining rooms. Out of sheer desperation, I went up to the bizarre doorway and shot three arrows through it. Then I stepped in and everything was fine ! I continued the game, eventually winning (this is rogue 3.7.x). Bill Dietrich houxj!wapd
