I recently started having a problems with GNUS 3.12 (NNTP 3.9). Occasionally, when trying to enter a newsgroup, I'll get an error: Symbol's value as variable is void: From Does anyone know what causes this error? Any and all suggestions welcome. -Israel Pinkas -- -------------------------------------- Disclaimer: The above are my personal opinions, and in no way represent the opinions of Intel Corporation. I posted a reply to this problem a few weeks ago, but don't have a
copy around. (If you saved a copy, could you send it back to me?
Thanks!!!)
Basically, the fix involves telling gnus that you can't support long
filenames by putting this with your other gnus stuff.
(setq gnus-use-long-file-name nil)
Then get rid of saved files that may be interpreted as kill files.
They are probably in ~/News/<newsgroup> where <newsgroup> is of the
form "gnu.emacs.gnus". The setq will make newsgroup have the form
"gnu/emacs/gnus". That way it won't collide with kill files that try
to be named "gnu.emacs.gnus.KILL" but which actually get named
"gnu.emacs.gnus" when truncated to 14 characters.
Again, please send me a copy of my reply if you have saved it. I
meant to, but forgot.
Thanks and hope this helps,
