I have just installed GNUS 3.12 on our system. It has been reported
that the windowing mechanism becomes confused whenever ctr-d is used
to read a digest. This is a small annoyance, but one we would like to fix.
I have heard that others have had the same problem. Could you send
me a patch or some advice. Thank you for your time and effort.
Sincerely,
Mark Rowlandmitch@HQ.AF.MIL (Mitch..Wright) (01/17/90)
Greetings!
I/We need some help getting GNUS to read news via nntp. All of the
appropriate variables seem to be set, and everything _seems_ to go smoothly.
I get the newsgroups buffer, but when I select a group to read, it goes off
like it is going to read the file, and then it does the :
Checking Bogus Newsgroups...done
and comes back to the newsgroup buffer as if everything was OK. I tend to
think that there is a permission problem, but I don't know what it is. The
"News hosts" works just fine, but of course it doesn't need to do the nntp
stuff.
I guess all that is left to say is ... HELP!
..mitch

You are right about it being a permission problem, though its sure
a strange error behavior. Check the nntp_access file on your server
system (probably in a /usr/local/lib/news directory, but it may be
elsewhere). You need to have a line like
ralph READ POST
in order to be able to read the news from the system named ralph.
You may find that you instead need the full domain name of the
"ralph" system as in
ralph.dfrf.nasa.gov READ POST
Seems like this should be unnecessary, but our installation
doesn't work without it.
Probably your system is not mentioned at all in the nntp_access file,
or possibly you didn't specify the full domain name and your
installation requires it (or vice versa).
