I have never really liked the ranking system rogue uses in the score file. I have always felt that the amount of gold you receive in a game is essentially random. I think a more equitable method is to use experience points. You can always find more monsters to kill, and the number of experience points they give is relatively fixed. The last time I made it out of the dungeon, I had ~24000 experience points, but only 10000 worth of gold. Another player had only 11000 experience points, but 12000 worth of gold. I don't agree. Gold runs out at a given level, so if you want to add to your score you must go down a level. Otherwise, someone with a lot of food and a slow digestion (or two) can add to his score forever by staying on a safe level like 12. I agree gold is random, but it evens out roughly. Also, experience points can be gone in a flash after a bad wraith attack; it's hardly fair to have an excellent score suddenly penalized to that extent (I've had a single wraith take me from 1600 to 300 exp. pts.). Before you flame about Leprechauns, sure, but you don't have to attack them. Dave Sherman (Magnifibeast) Toronto

Not only is gold terribly random, it also takes less skill to just grab gold, than to gain experience. As far as sitting on a level and boosting in experience, due to the way the levels increase, this isn't very productive beyond a point, whereas continuously dropping levels to get gold gets you killed quickly. There are many fine points involved in maximizing exp. points, I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I invite anyone with the capability to create a second rogue on your system, one that records the score as your exp. points and not your gold.(Each gold DOES count as a point if you make it out!) If enough systems had both rogues, I think it would gradually become obvious which scoring is preferred. Let the majority rule! Morgon the Malevolent {Eric Strobel} pur-ee!pur-phy!els
