[net.games.rogue] HELP!!

gibbons@sri-unix (12/07/82)

Can someone out there in rogue-land please tell me what
type of scroll yields the message:

You hear maniacal laughter somewhere in the distance.

when it is read?? Please post the answer to the net.

					Thanks.

I believe this is a scare monster scroll. This is used by dropping it in a passage way to retreat or by standing on in to prevent the monster from attacking.

That's a "Scare Monster" scroll (monsters will not step on it; nice for
blocking monsters off).
The maniatical laughter comes from monsters that know you have wasted the
scroll by reading it.

					Better luck next time,

I'm a newcomer to the net, but should we really help people with such
important discoveries as what "maniacal laughter" is all about?

I've won quite a few games and have discovered all sorts of new and interesting
ways to use and avoid wasting this scroll, and discovering them was at least
half the fun. How do others feel about revealing these tricks?

Please, friends, remember that there is network protocol.

1. Specific requests should be replied to by direct mail, not by
   network messages.

2. The word SPOILER should appear prominently in the Subject title
of any item that "gives something away." This includes such things
as, "What is the characted that is used in the display to represent
the Wand of Universality?" and "How do you go upstairs?" There are
who would prefer to find such things out for themselves.

It's simple courtesy: Do not do unto others that which is hateful to you!

BULLSHIT !!!

Why shouldn't requests for help over the net be answered over the net ?

There are other roguers out there who are also interested.

If you don't want to see it, don't read it.

I agree with the idea that if a question is asked on the net, and an article
appears titled "Re: Question", it is obvious that it is an answer, isn't it?
I enjoy reading proposed solutions to other adventurers problems, and I hope
it continues.
