Here are the meanings of some of the other cryptic messages:

1.  Msg:  This potion tastes great!  It tastes like `fruit` juice.
    Mean: See Invisible
    Des:  This potion allows you to see the Invisible Stalker when he attacks.

2.  Msg:  You feel a pull downward.
    Mean: Scroll of gold detection.
    Des:  This message appears only when this scroll is read and there is no
          gold left to be detected on that level, but there is some on the
          level below, so the pull downward.

3.  Msg:  You feel yourself moving much faster now.
    Mean: Potion of haste self.
    Des:  Temporarily give you speed to outdistance an attacking monster.
          Becomes permanent if two are quaffed consecutively.

4.  Msg:  Your hands begin to glow red.
    Mean: Scroll of confuse monster.
    Des:  This scroll confuses the attacking monster, generally letting you
          kill it, or at least moves away.

5.  Msg:  Your weapon/armor glows blue for a moment.
    Mean: Scrolls of weapon/armor enchantment.
    Des:  Increases damage potential or tendancy to hit for a weapon and
          makes armor stronger.

6.  Msg:  You feel very sick now.
    Mean: Potion of poison.
    Des:  This potion, when quaffed, takes about 3 strength points (yes str,
          not hp) away.

7.  Msg:  You hear a high pitched noise.
    Mean: Scroll of aggravate monster
    Des:  All monsters in the dungeon start moving toward you.

Some modifications to the effects listed:

Poison potion: takes 1 .. 3 strength points (unless a ring of sustain 
        strength is being worn).

Confusion scroll: the monster only becomes confused when you hit it after
        reading the scroll. 

See invisible potion: also takes away blindness.

Haste self potion: you cannot be permanently hastened in version 5.2:
        you only faint.
