Anybody got any suggestions where I can find a list of sites involved in EchoMAC, the Fido Macintosh Echo? Thanks. -- Ralph Brandi ralph@lzfme.att.com att!lzfme!ralph Work flows toward the competent until they are submerged.

My technique is to find one system that carries it and then look at the Origin lines on the messages. Or you can look at the SEEN-BYs on a number of messages from different parts of the country and try to put together a map. Or you can send FidoNet mail to the moderator (who should have a pretty good idea). There is a file called something like ELIST.ARC which should give the moderator's name and may also contain a list of nodes that get the Echo (though I have my doubts about how up to date that information is for a backbone Echo). ECHOMAC is particularly fluid right now because many new systems using TABBY are joining FidoNet and subscribing to ECHOMAC. ECHOMAC is a VERY active Echo (one of the top ten in terms of message traffic). Systems that carry it fall into these categories: o Macintosh oriented BBS running conventional FidoNet BBS software on IBM hardware. A number of these run multi-line TBBS systems. o Non-Macintosh oriented BBS running conventional FidoNet BBS software who just happen to carry ECHOMAC (some of these may be *EC systems who make it available to dialup callers because they have to carry in anyway.) o TABBY BBS running Mansion, RRH or WWIV-Mac software on Macintosh hardware. These are always Macintosh oriented BBS, but using EchoMail is a little more kludgy than using it on a "native" FidoNet system. If you are going to make a LD call specifically to read ECHOMAC, you might as well try for a multi-line IBM based system. I do know about Portland, OR, because I maintain the BBS list for the area. Although the SEEN-BYs show 105/3 27 48 68 69 300 449 469 496, the only system that has ECHOMAC available for users is: MacSystem TBBS (FidoNet 1:105/449) (503) 667-3670 300/1200/2400 bps 24 Hours (503) 667-5711 300/1200/2400/HST bps 24 Hours All of the other nodes listed in the SEEN-BYs are HUBS involved in the distribution. 1:105/496 MIGHT make it available for users [BagDad Cafe II, (503) 669-7395, 300/1200/2400/HST, 6 AM - 2 AM, single line, QuickBBS]. Portland is a PC Pursuit outdial (ORPOR) city. Note that the EchoMac Moderator seems to be a Point Operator (not in the FidoNet nodelist) ... so questions will have to be sent by FidoNet (or UFgate) mail. Also [for the person who was asking about Macintosh BBS in Berkeley] notice the second entry. The BMUG BBS is a multi-line TBBS system. BMUG is a very active Macintosh group and folks there will undoubtedly know about other Mac BBS in the Berkeley area. Sysop is Raines Cohen and the system is a UFgate (bmug.fidonet.org). There is some sort of local networking with another Macintosh BBS in Palo Alto (mailcom.fidonet.org, sysop Bernard Aboba, FidoNet 1:204/444). * Origin: EchoMac Moderator moving to Atlanta, GA (1:109/411.105) * Origin: The BMUG BBS - home of MUGADMIN - Berkeley, CA (1:161/444) * Origin: Bob's Mac [215] 446-7670 Drexel Hill, PA (1:273/402) * Origin: Uplink Rochester -- Rochester, New York (1:260/228) * Origin: C.F.O.N.J. Inquire again if you can't get what you need from the above.

What exactly are you looking for in the way of information about this Echo? BTW, in addition to Echomac, the following Macintosh-oriented Echomail conferences are available on Fidonet and Alternet: MACHYPE - HyperCard MACNOV - Novice Mac programmer MACDEV - Mac software developement ALTERMAC - Smaller Alternet version of Echomac MACFSALE - Mac stuff for sale MACVIRUS - Mac virus discussions MACCOMM - Mac communications MUGADMIN - Mac user groups MACFILES - Exchange files between BBS's MACSYSOP - General Mac BBS stuff MANSION - Mansion BBS support RRH - Red Ryder Host BBS support WWIVMAC - WWIV Mac BBS support TABBY - Tabby Mac Fidonet mailer support MACGAME - Mac computer games MACUK - Mac Echo originating in UK, but available in US too CANMAC - Canadian Macs METROMAC - NY metro area Mac stuff BAYMAC - SF Bay Area Mac stuff All of the above, except for CANMAC and BAYMAC are available on our board, Castle Tabby - (201) 988-0706, Fidonet 1:107/412, Alternet 7:520/412, 300/1200/2400/9600 HST. ----------------------------------------------------- Michael Connick mec@mtfmi.ATT.COM 201-957-3057 AT&T Bell Labs MT 3F-113 (Dept. 79153)
