[net.games.rogue] what does it mean when.....

bbb55611 (12/10/82)

you read a scroll and the screen reads "You feel as if some one is watching overyou"

and

you gulp down some of that magical elixier and it says "You feel strange forD moment...you're alright now."

as best as I can figure out, the scroll is some type of protection/parinoia
(sp?) and the potion is just something to mess-over your mind

please reply to me or the net as I'm sure that others are interested.---thanx,

death to all who oppose my quest of the amulet!!!!!!!!!!!

What some of the messages in rogue mean:

scrolls:
You feel as if someone is watching over you.
This is a remove curse scroll. If you have put on some
armour with a bad class and when you try to take it off
and it says you can't because its cursed just after you
have read this scroll you can take it off. This also
applies to cursed rings and weapons.

You hear a high pitched humming.
This is a attract monster scroll. Sleeping type monsters
will now attack you. (on the current level).

	Corridor glows red and fades.
You read a scroll of light in a corridor.

No message at all is printed.
This is a hold monster scroll. Monsters within 2 squares
		around you stop chasing you.

	You feel a pull downward.
This was a sense gold scroll but no gold was left on this
		level.

You feel a strange sense of loss.
This was an enchant weapon scroll but you were not wielding
a weapon so none can be enchanted.

potions:
	You feel very sick.
		Your strength is reduced.

This tastes like (your fruit) juice.
		see invisible stalker.

	This is dull tasting.
		no useful effect.

staffs:
	too weak.
This was a drain life wand but your own hit points
were too low to use it now. Note drain life may
defeat monsters but your own hit points are always affected.

I didn't include messages that I thought were obvious. Since I've been
playing for some time now, messages that are obvious to me may no be to
you, if so ask for them specifically.

The scroll that says "You feel as if someone is watching over
you" is a remove curse scroll. This allows you to remove cursed items
you may be wering or weilding (such as rings, armor, and weapons). The second
question about the potion that gives you a stange feeling and then it passes
is either an enchant weapon or enchant armor that has been quaffed when you
are not wielding a weapon or wearing armor.

I am sorry the answer to the second question is wrong. The correct
answer is that the potion is a magic or monster dectection potion that
is quaffed when there is nothing to detect on your present level. Bruce Dautrich

The 'you feel as if someone is watching over you' is a very useful scroll.
It is generally known as the 'remove curse' scroll. If you put on armor
or rings that are cursed, you can then take them off.

The 'you get a strange feeling for a monemt, then it passes' potion is known
as the 'monster detection' potion. It displays this message when there are
no monsters to be found, so you wasted it.

Please use the word SPOILER or some such phrase to indicate when news will
 spoil something for new players...

While I fully support the right to ask for, and recieve, rogue help on the
net, mightn't it be a good idea for responses to include something along the
lines of "spoiler" in their titles, so people who would rather learn for themselvm
selves (sorry, no hyphen there) won't blunder onto these things by accident?
Yes, I know it means submitting an original article instead of using -f, but
it still strikes me as a reasonable idea.
