TBC101@PSUVM.BITNET (TomShark Collins) (01/19/90)
On the BBS's I've ran, I've asked for birthdates in order to allow access to certain areas, as a method of validation (I had many times when a user would call and say that they forgot thier password), and out of curiousity. I don't announce their birthday to the rest of the world because it is private information, and some people don't want to be thought of as old... Now, what I'm wondering is why you would give someone your name, address and phone number over giving them your birthday. If someone knows your birthday, they can't do squat with it. If I know where you live, I could rob your house. If I know your phone number, I could annoy you with obscene phone calls... When I log onto a BBS, I'll give my Alias, First Name, and possibly my phone number (most often my data line...) ------- Tom "Shark" Collins Since ICS is comprised of 2 people, my views tbc101@psuvm.psu.edu are the opinion of at least 50% of the company.
