[alt.bbs] Syquest 45 meg removable drives and Sys 5.0

I just formatted a Syquest 45 meg removable and it works fine with System 5.02.
It is a MicroNet brand but all of the 45 meg mechanisms are made by Syquest. I
formatted a CMS 45 meg removable drive under System 4.0, but it would not allow
changing cartridges without restarting. Under System 5.0 the finder polls the
45 meg just like a unidisk 3.5 floppy. When you eject the disk it greys the
icon and when you put it back it restores the icons. The drive was very fast.
It ran AppleWorks GS 5 seconds faster than my Seagate 40 meg ST251. One
interesting point: The cartridge would not remount if the write-protect was
enabled on the cartridge. The system also would not start without a car-
tridge in the drive, if the drive was powered up. I only had one cartridge so
I couldn't test if it will allow a second cartridge to be inserted and mount
the new volumes. It otherwise acts just like a giant multi-volume floppy
drive so I don't see why that can't be done.

I don't have experience with partitions on the Apple line of computers,
but I do know that if you use the Syquest with different partitions
on different cartridges, you will crash version 1.3.2 of Amiga Workbench.
This might be interesting (if not important) for people to try on IBMs
and Apples.
