[alt.bbs] Want Telnet that can be run via serial port

No, I'm not looking for a version of SL/IP. I'm looking for a
version of something like NCSA Telnet (which we already use) which
can use a modem as it's keyboard and console, i.e. instead of
talking to the screen and keyboard of the computer it's running on,
it allows a BBS to pass control to it to login to a remote system
over a LAN.

Has anyone heard of such a thing? Is there a chance someone has
already modified NCSA Telnet to do this? Is it feasible?

For background, here's part of our setup:

PC Running D'Bridge <-----serial-----> UNIX box in same room
    Terminal emulator

A user logs in to D'Bridge, then runs a locally written terminal
emulator that allows them to login to the UNIX box over the serial
link. We want to do the same thing, only over 802.3 with TCP/IP.

We have the source code for the terminal emulator, so I guess we
could hook it into a PD INT 14 TCP/IP implementation -- if such a
thing exists.

Anyone got ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Please mail and I'll summarize.
