[comp.protocols.pcnet] bridging Token-Ring

boerner@ut-emx.UUCP (Brendan B. Boerner) (12/20/89)

I need to know if it is possible to bridge some Token-Ring rings which
contain servers running IBM OS/2 Lan Server, Novell Netware, and Apple
Applshare. Here is a simple ring setup which I can use to describe my
questions:

Ring A <---B1---> Ring B <---B2---> Ring C

All user workstations are on Ring A. User workstations will be:
{PC,MS}-DOS with Novell Netware v2.15
{PC,MS}-DOS with IBM PC LAN v1.3
OS/2 with the IBM Requester
Macintosh OS with Appleshare

Ring B will contain the servers. They will be:
Novell Netware v2.15
OS/2 Lan Server v1.1
AppleShare v2.0

Ring C will contain an IBM mainframe which would be accessed via 3270
connections using Token-Ring.

Suppose B1 and B2 are Novell Bridges. Would all the workstations be
able to access their respective server? Would the workstations
running the appropriate 3270 software be able to get to the IBM
mainframe?

Suppose B1 is a Novell Bridge and B2 is an IBM Bridge. What then?
Suppose B1 is an IBM and B2 is an Novell Bridge. What then?
Suppose B1 and B2 are IBM Bridges. What then?

If none of these scenarios allow any workstation to access any
service, are there any bridges which would?

Please e-mail me and I can summarize if their is any interest.

Thanks,
Brendan
