[comp.protocols.pcnet] Are there any alternatives to PC-NFS for PC systems?

atk@btr.com (10/24/90)

I recently started working as the system administrator for this company,
and we have a mixed environment of PCs and Sun systems.

We currently use a product called "PC-Interface" from Locus Computing
to interface our PCs to the Suns. We have had mixed results with this
package (specifically, the terminal emulation does not work with /bin/csh
on the Sun systems, and the PCs sometimes hang when using the netowrk).
So I am looking for alternatives.

I have investigated PC-NFS, and it looks like a good product, except
it doesn't seem compatible with Windows 3.0. I.e. I was not able to
successfully start a telnet session from within a DOS window, and
the mail package did not work properly for me when executed from a DOS
window either (the DOS windows opened from Windows 3.0 running in
enhanced mode).

Since we really like Windows 3.0, I thought I'd ask and see if anyone
knows of any other packages that will allow:

	1. NFS access using virtual disk drives on the PCs,
	2. Printing redirection of LPT1 to the Sun print spooler,
	2. Terminal emulation that will work from within a Windows 3.0 DOS
		window,
	3. Mail access from within a Windows 3.0 DOS window.

Please respond directly to me and I will summarize to the net if there
is enough interest.

Thanks.
