If the wand initially has an odd number of charges, it is good forever. Even so, the wand seems to be of such little value that I usually end up dropping it anyway.

the wand of striking is supposed to be *WIELDED* to be really effective : when zapped, it's about as effective as throwing a short bow. saumya k. debray sbcs!debray

In 3.6, the wand of striking is best used as a weapon. wield it, it is much better than a mace.

Not in the following configuration: | W| R@#### X| | With a wand of striking you can just keep whacking away at the W and X, and anything else that wanders up, and never be in any danger. It's almost as good as a scare monster scroll. It's also good when confused, since you have a much better chance of zapping in the correct direction then you do of moving the way you want.

Don't kill me if I'm wrong, but somehow I'm under the impression that in 3.6 and possibly some other versions the wand of striking when zapped at an adjacent monster has a 20% chance of changing the monster's dammage to 3d8 with +9 dammage bonus, otherwise it makes it 1d8 +3. When wielded, it is 1d8 with a +3,+3. I found these figures on an aging piece of printout paper, and my experience seems to bear it out, although I won't vouch for their accuracy. You might want to give it a try, though. Oh well, enought rambling... Alan J. Hu ...ucbvax!sdcsvax!ajh (or something like that...)
