[comp.protocols.nfs] NFSspecifications Available???

sas@bcd-dyn.UUCP (432 2370.00) (09/17/88)

Are the NFS Specifications Available anywhere (on the net or not) I've
tried calling Sun, but I keep getting marketing types who want to sell
me PC-NFS, not any info on the specs themselves. What gives?

Yes. You can order them from sun, but it will probably be faster to
get them from the net.

The RPCSRC 3.9 distribution has 250K bytes worth of docs, including the
NFS Spec. It was posted to comp.sources.unix, so you can find RPCSRC 3.9
where ever that group is archived. It also can be retrieved from the
sun-spots archive at Rice.

Via anonymous FTP, connect to titan.rice.edu and cd to the sun-source
directory. You'll find the files rpcsrc.rpc.1 through rpcsrc.rpc.9
(this is all the source code for the RPC library and utilities),
rpcsrc.man.10 (manual pages for same), and rpcsrc.doc.11 through
rpcsrc.doc.15. The NFS Spec can be found in the last one, rpcsrc.doc.15.

Via email, send a message with just "help" in it to the address
archive-server@rice.edu. You'll get back directions as to how to
request archived files.

The sun-spots archives has version 3.9 of RPC which includes
version _2_ of NFS Specifications. Hopefully, someone at Sun
will post a copy of version _3_ to Sun Spots so we can get it
from titan.rice.edu by ftp.

PLEASE.

Yes I will. I thought the spec was already available.
My apologies folks ! Please don't send requests for the spec to nfs3@sun.
I will arrange for the spec to be FTP-able and post notice informing
you where and when it is available.

"nfs3" is for comments only. Your cooperation is apreciated.

Sorry for the mixup...
