The application is a database system for free text which searches and updates large text databases on a network of GOULD and SUN machines using NFS. Does anyone know of a scheme for locking NFS files on a network wide basis. SUN machines have this capability via the statd(8C) and lockd(8C) however GOULD does not implement network wide locking, only local locking. Ideally the locking scheme would support read and write locks. We have thought about using lock files in the first instance. Any other ideas or information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
