[comp.protocols.nfs] NFS server not responding error on SUN

alan@metasoft.UUCP (Alan Epstein) (05/19/89)

our Sun 3/160 and 3/50's recently have been experiencing sluggishness
with our network. at first we thought it was the physical cable, and
spend considerable time finding no problem.

it has been suggested that perhaps there are too few nfs daemons
running (currently there are 4). the manual does not say to what
the magic number of '4' refers, but i have upped this to 8, to see
if this makes any difference.

Q1: what does the 4 mean? is there a formula for figuring out a good number?
Q2: does the argument to 'biod' correspond to that of nfsd in rc.boot,
and does this number have to change as well?
Q3: what are the tradeoffs of increasing this number?

PLEASE SEND REPLIES VIA E-MAIL.

thanks for any and all help.
