Over the past three weeks I have stumbled across two research activities involving NFS at Cornell (Replicated NFS File Systems) and research into different types of User Level file servers based on the NFS protocol (University of Sydney). I wasn't looking for them, and now I'm curious if there is other work being done to explore distributed file systems using NFS, the NFS protocol or derivatives of them. I'm not interested in direct implementations of NFS (unless there's a new twist, or you think you can surprise me in that I don't already know about you - like the engineer did during lunch in Munich :-) The work is though provoking and is interesting in the way people are extending the NFS protocol to support new features. A Tech Report describing the work would be great! A brief e-mail would be acceptable. I'm curious about the reason you're doing the work, not only what you're doing.
