I'd like to begin a discussion in this group on revisions to the "pcnfsd" protocol. Some of the changes that need to be made are trivial, like retrieving all of the user's groups. Some are straightforward but capable of being solved in many different ways: do we want to support user "resource profiles" (drives/printers that users mount by default) or system resource maps (for browsing)? Others are more complex and probably controversial: do we want to add LM-style printer queue and job manipulation? can we improve security to an acceptable level? can we enforce global policies such as "must log in"? As for the source code, we need a common source file that can be built on as many OS's as possible. The CTIX guys have sent me their SVR3 version with /etc/shadow fixes, and I'll do one that supports "getpwaent" and the rest of the passwd.adjunct stuff on SunOS. Obviously (1) all pcnfsd servers will continue to support protocol rev 1 as well as rev 2 (2) the source code will remain public-domain Geoff Geoff Arnold, Internet: geoff@East.Sun.COM PCDS Group, Sun Microsystems Inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most bizarre title of the week: "LAN Standards - Do you Need Them?"
