We've got the following problem: We have a SUN-3 workstation (SunOS 3.5, but soon to be upgraded to SunOS 4.0.3) and a number of PC-AT's. We would like to use the SUN as a fileserver for the PC's via PC-NFS. Furthermore we would like to monitor the usage of the server. What we especially want to know is how often certain (MS-DOS) programs, which are on the server, are accessed by the PC's, and how many PC's access a program at the same time. So we need to create a log-file in which all accesses to the disk of the SUN are recorded. Has anybody done this before? Is there some software for this purpose? Can we modify some software (we don't have a source-code license)? If so, which software and what to modify? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
