[comp.protocols.nfs] Getting 3270 emulation while running PC-NFS

crosson@cam.nist.gov (Bob Crosson) (10/28/89)

We have a bunch of PCs running Sun's PC-NFS and Lifeline Mail.
They all have their remote disks on Sun servers and use POP to
get their mail from the same machines. Remote printers are on
the servers, too. Many of these users, however, need frequently
to log into an IBM 9370 via Telnet. In PC-NFS they can do this
and emulate a VT100, but they would be much better off if they
could emulate an IBM 3270 type terminal. Is anybody doing this,
emulating a 3270 on a PC running PC-NFS, without disabling NFS?

Here's what I have tried unsuccessfully. I have queried Sun via e-
mail with no response. I have tried running PC-NFS through a packet
driver (from Clarkson) with the intent of running NCSA Telnet 2.2TN
for the 3270 emulation. I found I could run NCSA as many times as I
wanted before starting NFS and everything worked fine. As soon as I
started NFS, however, NCSA would no longer run no matter what I did
with NFS (unmount everything, use the 'net stop rdr' command). The
error I got from NCSA when I tried to start it was 'TYPE_INUSE' from
the packet driver.

I'm stuck with PC-NFS so using FTP Software's PC/TCP and Interdrive
is out of the question. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has
solved this problem, or other approaches that might be tried. E-mail
can be sent to

Thanks in advance.
